Trial of Valor Normal and Heroic is open this week! We've partnered with FatbossTV to provide you with strategy guides to all of the encounters. Learn more about this partnership in our announcement post.

Helya Guide

Trial of Valor Overview

Since Loken's betrayal, Odyn has been trapped within the Halls of Valor as Helya plots in the shadows to claim the souls of his valarjar champions. In recent days, however, great heroes have arrived in the lands of Stormheim in the Legion's wake. Hoping that their might and determination could tip the scales and end Helya's reign, Odyn summons these champions for a final test.

Trial of Valor is intended to wrap up the Stormheim questline and serve as a mini-raid in between Emerald Nightmare and Nighthold.

Trial of Valor will open on November 8th US/November 9th EU, two weeks after the Karazhan dungeon opens. Mythic and LFR will likely open the week after, following the schedule for past raids.

Defeating Helya on Mythic difficulty (image The Chosen) awards the title %s the Chosen.

Trial of Valor Quests

Players upon logging in for 7.1 will find a raven in Dalaran. This will start the quest series image A Call to Actionimage A Threat Risesimage Helya's Conquest, and image Odyn's Favor.

This will unlock new image Helarjar World Quests. These are found all over the Broken Isles, to show Helya's corruption is spreading.

Trial of Valor Loot

Loot from Trial of Valor is +5 ilvls higher than Emerald Nightmare Loot:

  • LFR: 840+
  • Normal: 855+
  • Heroic: 870+
  • Mythic: 885+

There is no Tier loot with set bonuses from Trial of Valor. However, there are a number of relics from the bosses:

  • Odyn: Holy, Arcane, Iron
  • Guarm: Shadow, Fire, Frost
  • Helya: Storm, Fel, Blood, Life

Icy-veins

Trial of Valor is a raid instance introduced in the World of Warcraft: Legion expansion. The raid is available in the following difficulties and sizes:

  • Raid Finder;
  • Normal mode (between 10 and 30 players, using the flex system);
  • Heroic mode (between 10 and 30 players, using the flex system);
  • Mythic mode, the hardest difficulty in the game (available only in 20-man size).

The raid is part of Tier 19, in terms of PvE progression, and it houses 3 boss encounters.

Currently, we offer you the following strategy guides:

The raid instance entrance is located in Stormheim.

Overview of the Bosses

The raid offers a linear progression path, with an imposed kill order.

Odyn is the first of the bosses. It is a 3-phase fight where the raid encounters Odyn, Hymdall, and Hyrja who all have retained some of their abilities from Halls of Valor. Each of the phases is relatively simple (which does not mean that they are easy) and will test the raid's coordination.

Guarm is the second of the bosses. This is an encounter where positioning is key. In Mythic mode, it also acts as a brutal DPS check.

Helya is the third and final boss of the raid. The fight against her is long and difficult, with many abilities to deal with.

re: Guarm

Full Strategy:

TL;DR

4.1. Tanks

4.2. Healers

  • Remove the healing absorption effect from Shadow Lick Icon Shadow Lick.
  • Dispel the freeze/stun effect from Frost Lick Icon Frost Lick (for mass dispels, ask a Shadow Priest for help).
  • Heal through the DoT effect of Flame Lick Icon Flame Lick.
  • Pay attention to Flashing Fangs Icon Flashing Fangs damage on the tanks.

4.3. DPS

  • Shadow Priest can help with mass-dispelling Frost Lick Icon Frost Lick when it hits several players.

4.4. Everyone

  • Positioning
    • Ranged players should be in front of the boss, far enough to outrange Flashing Fangs Icon Flashing Fangs.
    • Melee players should be behind the boss and reposition quickly after casts of Roaring Leap Icon Roaring Leap.
    • Everyone should spread out 5 yards.
  • Move in the damage area (Shadow, Frost, Fire) you were assigned to when Guardian's Breath is cast and do not ever stand the other two.

5. Positioning

Regarding the timing of abilities, there are two things to note.

  • A Lick (either Shadow Lick Icon Shadow LickFrost Lick Icon Frost Lick, or Flame Lick Icon Flame Lick) is always cast before a Guardian's Breath, so while players move in to stand in the proper breath, they still need to maintain a 5-yard distance.
  • Headlong Charge Icon Headlong Charge is always cast a few seconds after a Roaring Leap Icon Roaring Leap, so it is important for players to be aware of this and reposition following a Roaring Leap with the next Headlong Charge in mind.

6. Tank Concerns

Really the only tank concern is making sure they are stacked to share damage and that all DPS are out of range to avoid the frontal cone.

7. Healing Concerns

Most of the damage in the fight is avoidable, so most of the healing concerns are about healing avoidable damage that was not avoided and the tank damage from melee attacks and Flashing Fangs Icon Flashing Fangs.

Special care needs to be given to Licks.

  • The healing absorption effect from Shadow Lick Icon Shadow Lick needs to be cancelled by healing the affected players.
  • The freeze/stun effect from Frost Lick Icon Frost Lick needs to be dispelled (for mass dispels, ask a Shadow Priest for help).
  • The DoT effect from Flame Lick Icon Flame Lick needs to be healed through.

8. Bloodlust/Heroism/Time Warp

We advise you to use Bloodlust Icon Bloodlust/Heroism Icon Heroism/Time Warp Icon Time Warp at the pull. There will be a Guardian's Breath 15 seconds afterwards, but it is the first one, so people do not have yet to stand in a specific breath, resulting in it being the easiest Guardian's Breath to handle. There will be a Headlong Charge Icon Headlong Charge towards the end of the effect, but it still remains the best time to cast Bloodlust/Heroism/Time Warp.

re: Helya

0

Full Strategy:

TL;DR

1. Tanks

  • Tanks face the boss slightly off to the side to avoid hitting the raid with breath cone, but not so far as to spawn adds on the upper levels.
  • The tanks swap after every breath.
  • The Helya tank will always get Taint of the Sea Icon Taint of the Sea while the offtank will always get a Orb of Corruption Icon Orb of Corruption.
  • The Grimelord and the Night Watch Mariner should be tanked separately. They should be kept near Gripping Tentacles for passive cleave.
  • One tank should always stay in range of the boss no matter what to avoid Corrosive Nova Icon Corrosive Nova.
  • Plan cooldowns appropriately for Anchor Slam Icon Anchor Slam and Ghostly Rage Icon Ghostly Rage.

2. Healers

3. Everyone

  • Avoid getting hit by Helya's breaths if you are not the current tank.
  • If you are fixated by Rabid Icon Rabid, bring the Decaying Minion into the designated stack point.
  • Avoid being hit by Orb of Corruption Icon Orb of Corruption and Orb of Corrosion Icon Orb of Corrosion, and ensure they are kited correctly.

Bloodlust/Heroism/Time Warp

We advise you to use Bloodlust Icon Bloodlust/Heroism Icon Heroism/Time Warp Icon Time Warp during the final Phase. The first two phases of the fight are about control, while the final Phase is a race to the finish to kill the boss before the raid damage is too high from Fury of the Maw Icon Fury of the MawBloodlust Icon Bloodlust/Heroism Icon Heroism/Time Warp Icon Time Warp can also be an invaluable healing cooldown in this Phase.
