re: Hellfire Citadel

Hellfire Citadel is a raid instance introduced in the World of Warcraft: Warlords of Draenor expansion. The raid is available in the following difficulties and sizes:

  • Raid Finder;
  • Normal mode (between 10 and 30 players, using the flex system);
  • Heroic mode (between 10 and 30 players, using the flex system);
  • Mythic mode, the hardest difficulty in the game (availably only in 20-man size).

The raid is part of Tier 18, in terms of PvE progression, and it houses 13 boss encounters. The raid instance entrance is located in Tanaan Jungle.

Currently, we offer you the following strategy guides:

The raid offers a non-linear progression path, to a certain extent.

The first encounter is Hellfire Assault, which effectively opens up the raid instance for your raid group. It is an add fight where you do not really fight a boss.

After this, your raid has a choice between two bosses: Iron Reaver and Kormrok. These can be attempted in any order.

Next your raid has to face the Hellfire High Council. This is a typical council-style fight, during which your raid will face 3 bosses, all active at the same time.

The next boss encounter after that is also fixed: Kilrogg Deadeye. This is an encounter during which part of your raid must regularly travel to an alternate realm, and during which your raid must also manage an additional resource.

After Kilrogg, your raid must defeat Gorefiend. This boss (an alternate version of Teron Gorefiend, the first Death Knight) regularly sends part of your raid into a parallel realm, where these players have to handle a set of adds.

Once Gorefiend has been dealt with, your raid has a choice between several bosses which can be attempted in any order: Fel Lord ZakuunShadow-Lord IskarXhul'horac, Socrethar the Eternal, and Tyrant Velhari.

Fel Lord Zakuun is a single-phase fight which requires excellent positioning and raid awareness. It also features a number of unique and creative mechanics.

The Shadow-Lord Iskar fight revolves around a creative ability that allows designated raid members to control parts of the encounter. Additionally, your raid will also face an array of positioning and movement challenges.

Xhul'horac is a four-phase encounter that stresses your raid members' ability to move quickly and to dodge ground effects.

During the Socrethar the Eternal fight, your raid will have to handle a special unit that can sometimes be controlled by players. Positioning and controlling this unit correctly is key to your raid's success.

The most strenuous parts of the fight against Tyrant Velhari will test your raid's ability to correctly handle several large adds, with the rest of the mechanics in the encounter being quite straightforward.

The penultimate boss of the instance is Mannoroth. This long, 4-phase encounter will challenge every aspect of your raid's ability, proving a true test on your way to the final boss.

Finally, your raid can face Archimonde. This is an extremely long and complex encounter, although one your raid will be well prepared for if you have managed to get through the Mannoroth fight.

Hellfire Citadel Raid Overview

More Info, including loot tables, consumables, etc. in full post at WoWhead.com

Hellfire Citadel is the third raid of Warlords of Draenor. This guide provides an overview of the loot including  Calamity's Edge, rewards including  Felsteel Annihilator, bonus rolls, and bosses in Hellfire Citadel! It also includes Wowhead's detailed strategy guides for each boss and their trash.

Table of Contents

Hellfire Citadel Basics

Hellfire Citadel has four difficulties: LFR (25 players), Normal (10-30), Heroic (10-30), and Mythic (20). The loot increases as you progress further in the instance.

Hellfire Citadel has 13 Encounters. The item levels vary throughout the instance:

The Hellfire Citadel raid is partially non-linear, allowing players to choose a progression path at several key decision points:
  • After defeating Hellfire Assault and Iron Reaver, players may choose between Kormrok or the Hellfire High Council/Kilrogg Deadeye/Gorefiend wing
  • Upon gaining access to the Nexus of Souls by defeating Gorefiend, players can choose freely between Shadow-Lord Iskar, Socrethar the Eternal, Fel Lord Zakuun, and Xhul'horac
  • Players must defeat Socrethar the Eternal to gain access to Tyrant Velhari
  • Players must defeat all five of these bosses to reach Mannoroth
  • Players must defeat Mannoroth to reach Archimonde
All four raid difficulties do not share lockouts. The required ilvl to queue for LFR is ilvl 650.

The entrance is located in central Tanaan Jungle, which is a zone that requires building a Shipyard to access. The closest flight path is in Lion's Watch or Vol'mar, which are cities that are unlocked as part of the Shipyard questline.

Bosses and Strategy Guides

We've expanded our raid coverage in Warlords to include in-depth strategy guides to each boss! We are constantly updating this section with new guides leading up to Hellfire Citadel's launch--we'll have strategy guides to every Hellfire Citadel boss and role guides covering the basics.

Hellbreach

Halls of Blood

Bastion of Shadows

Destructor's Rise

The Black Gate

We also have database pages for each boss, which can be found by searching the database, accessed on Hellfire Citadel, or our strategy guides. Here's an overview of what you can find on the boss pages:
  • Maps: The center of each raid page contains all maps with markers for each boss. You can swap between floors via the option at the top right of the map. Clicking on the map enlarges it.
  • Bosses: The "Encounters" section lists all the bosses found in the instance. Clicking on a boss brings up a page specifically for that boss which contains the in-game Dungeon Journal, Encounter Tips, LFR, Normal, Heroic and Mythic loot. Encounter Tips are new for Warlords--they give tldr information on important things each role should remember for a boss.
  • Spells: From the "Dungeon Journal" tab on a boss' page, click on a spell to see how hard it hits in each difficulty—LFR, Normal, Heroic, Mythic. Just select the difficulty right underneath the spell tooltip on the page.
  • Loot: The "Items" tab on the "Related" section of a Raid page breaks down all of the loot, split by difficulty. You can view the loot for a particular boss by visiting that boss' specific page too. On a boss' specific page, you can filter for loot that is appropriate for your specialization--just click on the class icons right above the loot lists.
  • NPCs, Quests, and Achievements are also tracked in the Related section.
